Five things set your price.
Local vs. long-distance
Local moves are priced hourly (crew + truck). Long-distance is priced by weight and mileage — the clock doesn’t run on the highway.
Home size & volume
More rooms means more boxes, more weight, and a bigger crew and truck. Our inventory builder gives you a ballpark before we ever visit.
Access & logistics
Stairs, walk-ups, long carries from the truck, elevator reservations, and tight parking all add labor time. We flag these in the survey.
Packing & specialty
Packing labor + materials, storage-in-transit, and specialty items (pianos, safes) are line items — add what you want, skip what you don’t.
Valuation coverage
Basic Released Value is free ($0.60/lb per item). Full Value Protection costs more but repairs or replaces — it’s your call, in writing.
Binding estimate — a guaranteed total based on the inventory and services listed. The price is the price. We recommend this for long-distance, in writing.
Non-binding estimate — our best-guess based on estimated weight. It can change, but by FMCSA rule a non-binding mover can’t charge you more than 110% of it at delivery.
Released Value — included free on interstate moves: $0.60 per pound, per item. Minimal, but no cost.
Full Value Protection — for an added charge, we repair or replace damaged items. Worth it for valuable shipments. Both are explained in writing before you choose, per FMCSA rules.
A legitimate mover does not demand a large cash deposit to “hold” your move, and won’t hold your belongings hostage for more money at delivery. We never take a big up-front deposit — you pay after the work is done. Before hiring any mover, verify their USDOT number at protectyourmove.gov, and for interstate moves you’re entitled to the FMCSA “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” booklet.
